The Mitchell Institute for Health and Education Policy is an independent think tank. The Institute was established in 2013 by Victoria University, Melbourne with foundational investment from the Harold Mitchell Foundation. The Institute also seeks and attracts financial partners and supporters for research activities.
The Mitchell Institute looks at emerging policy issues through its research agenda and works to improve the connection between evidence and policy reform. The Institute uses an evidence-based inquiry approach to research. The Institute has a special focus on the development of health and education policies that address issues of social disadvantage.
Key research themes include:
- Educational opportunity – ensuring every young person gets the school education they need
- Tertiary education – extending access to tertiary education for all Australians
- Federalism – federation reform for better health and education
- Teaching Quality – ensuring high quality education opportunity
The economics of vocational education and training, workforce development, students, vocational education/higher education.
