Media Release - TAFE welcomes Victorian Government Investment
Victorian TAFE Assocation response to the Government's $261 million injection of funds to the TAFE sector.
The peak body for Victoria’s TAFE network, the Victorian TAFE Association (VTA), has welcomed the Andrews’ Government’s investment into Victorian vocational education.
Victoria’s 12 TAFE institutes and four dual sector universities educate and train more than 200,000 students every year and the $261 million announcement today is unparalleled in the State’s history.
This package of additional funding will deliver vital funding to TAFE to continue to operate, and support training at this critical time. TAFE Teachers will be able to adapt even more quickly to remote delivery of programs.
The State Government, TAFEs, and the VTA have been working closely together on the COVID-19 response and this announcement acknowledges the critical State resource that Victorian TAFEs are. As Victoria works through and then transitions out of these challenging times, a strong Victorian TAFE sector will be crucial to provide the training that Victoria needs. The announcement today recognises this.
This funding will benefit thousands of students, staff, and local communities, including the over 70 per cent of Victorian apprentices who gain their training through Victoria’s TAFE Institutes, and the 340,000 Victorians over age 25 who benefit from training delivered by TAFE.
