Victorian TAFE celebrated at Australian Training Awards
The Victorian TAFE Association (VTA) congratulates Victoria’s strong performance at the 2018 Australian Training Awards. This year’s award ceremony in Sydney celebrated the best and brightest of the Australian VET system, with an excellent showing from the public and community sector. Victorian TAFE featured prominently:
Wodonga Institute of TAFE – Large Training Provider of the Year
Wodonga Institute of TAFE has been recognised as the nation’s finest comprehensive VET provider to take out this highly contested award. This is an awesome achievement by WIOT, celebrating high performance and excellence in all aspects of VET.
Box Hill Institute Group – International Training Provider of the Year
Box Hill Institute Group has over 1,000 students from more than 50 countries. This award recognises Box Hill’s leadership in both onshore and offshore international education.
PACCAR Australia – Large Employer of the Year Award
Based in Bayswater, PACCAR builds Kenworth trucks. This award recognises the innovative and comprehensive training program delivered by partners PACCAR and Chisholm Institute of TAFE.
Siemens Ltd – Australian Apprenticeships – Employer Award
Focused on electrification, automation and digitisation, Siemens is re-inventing the way apprenticeships are delivered, with program partners AiG and Swinburne University.
Alyssa Heard – Australian Apprentice of the Year Award (runner up)
Alyssa Heard completed a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and is now completing a Certificate III in Patisserie with Federation University. Her outstanding achievements were recognised as Victorian Apprentice of the Year and now, as runner up in the national competition.
Amanda Woodhams – Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year Award (runner up)
Amanda Woodhams has completed a Certificate III in Arboriculture with Melbourne Polytechnic. She has previously been recognised as Victorian Trainee of the Year.
Victoria’s community education sector was also recognised:
Jennie Barrera – National Achievement Award
Jennie’s career as VET educator and leader in the Learn Local sector was recognised with her receiving the prestigious National Achievement Award. She is the CEO of the Wyndham Community and Education Centre in Melbourne’s West.

The strength of the nexus between our TAFE institutes, leaders, industry partners and students has been acknowledged as amongst the nation’s best. These awards celebrate the role of TAFE at the heart of Victoria’s – and indeed Australia’s – VET system. This is terrific achievement and I congratulate all the winners and finalists.”
