Members of the executive committee
The Executive Committee is responsible to the Association Council for oversight of operations of the Association.
Committee members are elected by members of the VTA Association Council representatives, and comprises a Chair, a Non-Executive Board Member and three CEO Members.

Elected as VTA Chair in April 2014.
Leonie is Board Chair at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE. She is an experienced Management Consultant and Company Director who also has local government, horticulture and education CEO experience. She has leadership, financial management, governance and project management skills. In her consulting business, she specialises in organisational analysis, strategic planning, business planning, research and training and facilitation. Leonie is also a partner in Burrows Jewellers retail business. Leonie is also Chair of Sunraysia Community Health Services and a former Chair of Lower Murray Water.
Qualifications include Bachelor of Arts (Library and Information Science), Bachelor of Business (Public Administration), and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Nicholas Hunt was appointed Chief Executive Officer of William Angliss Institute in 2007. Since joining the Institute Nick has focussed on developing WAIs educational programs, strengthening the Institute’s activities in support of industry and leading the Institute’s strategic development in a period of significant change.
WAI is Australia’s largest specialist provider of foods, tourism, hospitality and events education and training. WAI seeks to be the leading educational provider of Australian hospitality, tourism, foods and culinary arts nationally and internationally.
The Institute’s mission is to deliver the highest quality specialist skills and education to inspire, empower and develop people passionately devoted to being service industry professionals, leaders and innovators.
Prior to joining the Institute Nick held a variety of positions in tourism and education development sectors. These include CEO - Tourism Alliance Victoria, CEO - Country Victorian Tourism Council and Executive Director - Tourism Training Victoria.
Outside of the Institute, Nick is a Director of TAFE Directors Australia, the national body representing public TAFE providers; Director of the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism & Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), Board Member Victorian Tourism Industry Council and Treasurer of the Victorian TAFE Association.
Nick’s qualifications include a Masters in Education Policy (International), University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) University of Tasmania and is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Maria Peters, BA, DipEd, Grad Dip TESOL was appointed CEO and Director of Chisholm in April 2010.
Maria has had extensive experience in education both locally and internationally and has significant experience in educational leadership and planning. She has held a range of management positions before becoming the Chisholm Director of the School of Social Sciences in 2001. She was appointed to the newly created position of Deputy CEO and Executive Director Programs in 2008.
Maria has experience of delivery over a range of industry sectors and is involved in a diverse network of organisations and committees.
Paul Culpan is Chief Executive Officer Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) and holds a Master in Education (Leadership). He also has multinational private sector marketing experience in fast moving consumer goods and pharmaceutical industries.
Paul is passionate about improving education outcomes in regional areas as well as enabling local communities to be innovative and entrepreneurial, as a way of creating their own unique market positioning and increasing employment opportunities for young and mature age people.
Allan has strong experience at senior operational and financial management levels in strategic planning, business operations, corporate governance and multi-level stakeholder and people resource management.
Since 2008 he has been providing independent management and consulting services to a range of clients and industries. Assignments have included operations, project and contract management, mentoring, process improvement and change programs, financial and operational reviews, M&A and due diligence activities.
Allan was previously Managing Director of Exide Technologies - Asia Pacific prior to which he was Managing Director Exide Technologies – Australasia, and has held various senior finance and administration positions within the Exide Technologies Corporation and Pacific Dunlop Groups.
Allan holds a Bachelor of Business from Swinburne College of Technology and an Advanced Management Certificate from Melbourne Business School of Management. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Treasurer of the Victorian Tree Industry Organization and Treasurer of the Pony Club Association of Victoria – SMZ Division.
